School Data Study Committee Approves Recommendations

The Legislative Council Study Committee on School Data met for the final time Thursday (Nov. 17) and unanimously voted to recommend two formal bill drafts for legislation and three informal recommendations for further consideration and possible legislation.

In general, the recommendations from the committee require the state Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to provide model plans or informational resources regarding school data best practices to school districts.  School boards retain their local decision-making in these areas. School Data Committee to Weigh Policy Options

img_0238The Study Committee on School Data began discussing options for committee consideration to be included in possible legislation or recommendations to the Legislature. The options were developed by Legislative Council Staff based on suggestions raised by speakers and committee members at the July and August committee meetings.  These options are intended to assist the committee by serving as a starting point for discussion. Committee members may have additional issues that they wish to present for consideration that are not included.

Recap: School Data Study Committee Holds Second Meeting

thiesfeldtThe Legislative Council Study Committee on School Data, chaired by state Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond du Lac), held its second meeting on Tuesday, August 16.  Margaret Murphy of the Neenah School Board is a public member of the committee.

Recap: School Data Study Committee Holds First Meeting

The Legislative Council Study Committee on School Data, chaired by state Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond du Lac), held its first meeting on Tuesday, July 12.  Margaret Murphy of the Neenah School Board is a public member of the Committee.

The Study Committee members heard presentations from the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).

Legislative Council Study Committee Participants Made Public

The Legislative Council has posted a list of the applicants tentatively chosen to participate in study committees that will take an in-depth look at a number of state issues this summer. Participants named in these lists must still be approved by a vote of the full Joint Legislative Council. A ballot has been sent to Council members, and the results will be tabulated and available after Friday (June 17).

Margaret Murphy, Board Clerk of the Neenah School Board was chosen to serve on the Legislative Council Study Committee on School Data. Eight of the nine public members tentatively named to that committee have strong ties to schools.
