Gov. Tony Evers will release his budget plan on February 28, 2019. This will coincide with a budget address to the legislature the same day. As we have posted here earlier, the K-12 education portion of the budget is expected to mirror the DPI budget request proposed last fall when the governor was state superintendent of public instruction. This will be the first opportunity to see his budget plan in its entirety and if there are any differences with the DPI request.
Following the introduction of the governor’s budget proposal, it goes to the legislature’s budget committee, the Joint Finance Committee (JFC). The JFC will hold public hearings around the state on the budget. Stay tuned here for information on the public hearings and plan to attend WASB Day at the Capitol on March 13. Advocacy will be important to build support for a positive K-12 budget.
