January advocacy tip: Plan to attend legislative update, school funding commission sessions at convention

We hope to see you in Milwaukee for the 2019 State Education Convention.  You have many excellent choices for sessions to attend and we would like to highlight two here for your consideration: The WASB Legislative Update and The Blue Ribbon Commission: Where Do We Go From Here?  featuring co-chairs Rep. Joel Kitchens (R-Sturgeon Bay) and Sen. Luther Olsen (R-Ripon) as well as commission members Michelle Langenfeld (District Administrator-Green Bay), Joni Burgin (District Administrator-Grantsburg), Ted Neitzke (Administrator-CESA 6) and Dan Rossmiller (Govt Relations Director-WASB).

See below for details on each session:

WASB Legislative Update
The start of a new legislative session always brings challenges and opportunities. The WASB Government Relations team will explore some of the key challenges and opportunities for K-12 education in the upcoming session, including whether the 2019-21 state budget will provide funding reforms and necessary resources for schools.

  • Thursday, January 24
  • 1:45 PM – 2:45 PM
  • Room: WI Center 102 AB

The Wisconsin Blue Ribbon Commission on School Funding has spent the past year examining our current system of public school finance. As part of that process, they held eight public hearings around the state, reviewed challenges inherent in the current system and studied critical issues of resource inequity for school districts and children. This session will feature the commission co-chairs as well as several other commission members in a discussion of their recommendations and how they may impact the upcoming 2019-21 state budget process.
  • Friday, January 25
  • 9:15 AM – 10:15 AM
  • Room: WI Center 102 AB
