School Funding Commission to Hold First Meeting Dec. 14

The newly-formed Blue Ribbon Commission on School Funding will hold its first meeting—an informational public hearing—Thursday, Dec. 14 at 10:00 AM in Room 412 East of the State Capitol.  (View  meeting notice.)

The Commission will hear a presentation from the Department of Public Instruction and the Legislative Fiscal Bureau.  Testimony will be from invited speakers only.

Immediately prior to the public hearing Co-Chairs Sen. Luther Olsen (R-Ripon), pictured at left in photo, and Rep. Joel Kitchens (R-Sturgeon Bay), pictured at right in photo,  will hold a press conference to introduce the members and review the purpose of the commission. The press conference will take place in the Assembly Parlor of the State Capitol at 9:30 AM.

The co-chairs will outline the goals of the commission and what they hope to achieve over the coming months as the commission travels the state to take testimony from school leaders, parents and citizens.

Both the press conference and the Commission meeting are scheduled to be broadcast live on Wisconsin Eye.

Dan Rossmiller, WASB Government Relations Director, is a member of the Commission.  He will be providing updates on the commission’s first meeting and its schedule for subsequent meetings as that information becomes available.
