Numerous Opportunities to Learn More About Advocacy at the State Convention

convention_2017The 96th annual WASB/WASDA/WASBO joint state education convention kicks off next week in Milwaukee. We hope to see you there!

There are several great opportunities for school board members who are interested in legislative advocacy to learn more about key issues and how to be more effective.  This includes opportunities to participate in informational sessions related to the Delegate Assembly process that determines the WASB Resolutions and, in turn, the positions we take on issues before Congress and the state legislature.

Members who are not their board’s delegate  are welcome to participate in these sessions and are also welcome to watch the Delegate Assembly as spectators.

Please consider attending the following sessions while at the convention.  We think it will give you a true appreciation for how member-driven the process is to determine the positions the WASB takes on important K-12 issues.  Thank you!

Tuesday, Jan. 17
7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
WASB Pre-Delegate Assembly Discussion Session
Hilton Milwaukee City Center–Crystal Ballroom, Fifth Floor

The chair of the WASB Policy and Resolutions Committee conducts this discussion session to afford delegates an opportunity to seek any needed clarifications of issues addressed in the recommended resolutions. This will be an information session only; no action will be taken and no debate will be allowed. Delegates and alternates are encouraged to attend and all school board members and administrators are welcome. The session will include a review of parliamentary procedure for delegate assemblies by the WASB parliamentarian.

Wednesday, Jan. 18

WASB Convention/New Delegate Orientation
Wisconsin Center, Ballroom AB

First time convention attendees and school board and CESA delegates who are serving for the first time are invited to participate in an orientation session to outline the convention highlights and to discuss delegates’ role and the procedures of the WASB Delegate Assembly.
