Two K-12 education-related task forces create by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) are set to hold hearings on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The Speaker’s Task Force on Urban Education will hold its first meeting in Madison at 1:00 PM in Room 412 East, State Capitol. The focus will be on teacher recruitment and retention in urban school systems.
Invited speakers will include: Jennifer Cheatham, Superintendent, Madison Metropolitan School District; Ray Cross, President, University of Wisconsin System; and representatives of the Department of Public Instruction, Teach for America, Leadership for Educational Equity, and the Coordinator of Teacher Education, Milwaukee Area Technical College.
At the conclusion of the invited testimony, the Task Force will accept public testimony regarding the focus topics of teacher recruitment, retention and training.
The Speaker’s Task Force on Youth Workforce Readiness will hold its second meeting in Wausau at 11:00 AM at Northcentral Technical College. The hearing will take place in Room 1004 – Auditorium, Center for Health Sciences, 1000 W. Campus Drive, Wausau, WI 54401.
Invited speakers include: the Incoming Chair of Governor’s Council on Workforce Investment; the Special Assistant to the Chancellor for Economic Development, UW-Stevens Point; as well as representatives of Skyward, Marshfield Clinic, Ministry Health, Centergy, Altmann Construction, Brakebush Brothers, the Central WI Metal Manufacturers Association, the International Union of Operating Engineers, North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters, Peter Companies, Martens Machining, the Portage County Business Council, and the North Central WI Workforce Development Board.
Among the educators invited to testify are: the Florence School District Administrator, an Assistant Principal for Stevens Point Area Senior High School, the Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator for Northcentral Technical College, and a representative of the Wisconsin Area Health Education Center.
