Senate Bill 227 was unanimously recommended for passage by the bipartisan membership of the Senate Revenue, Financial Institutions, and Rural Issues Committee. The bill changes state law so school districts, other local governments, and nonprofit organizations don’t have to buy the building materials themselves in order to get the state sales tax exemption (read more in previous post on this bill).
WASB supports this legislation and thanks state Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) for authoring the bill. The identical Assembly companion bill, Assembly Bill 313, authored by state Rep. Bob Kulp (R-Stratford) is currently in the Assembly Ways and Means Committee and has not been scheduled for a public hearing yet.
WASB urges our members to contact their state legislators in support of SB 227/AB 313.
